CME WIDI Master in Slave mode. ( running with an iPad wirelessly and then over USB

Published 26 May 2020

So here is another case where you can add external foot pedal control to a HXSTOMP using only usb midi ( exact same thing for your new POD Go ). Let’s cover this, The POD Go is indeed midi compatible but it runs midi strictly via the USB port ( like most other helix processors ). It does not come with 5 pin midi ports but this is hardly essential. Your potential best friend for a midi case like this is sitting in your back pocket. Grab your iPhone, stick a camera connector kit dongle in place and you now have a midi controller in your hands. More to the point you can play music via the usb link as well as midi, so this “computer” is now acting as the midi master and allows you to bridge even wirelessly to any other midi controller. To go wireless with the iOS device you will need will need a midi controller with Bluetooth, or you can convert one easily with a CME WIDI master, a Quicco, a Yamaha bluetooth dongle, there are quite a few. When using an iOS device in the middle like this, it is what directs midi traffic and this usually is done most easily with an app like AUM or Audiobus 3. Best apps I’ve seen so far for directing midi traffic, as well as being great modular mixers.. If you’d like to see the CME do their actual Master thing, check this next video in the series.
