The extension to Wawa will add 1 station and 3 miles or 4.8 kilometers to SEPTA’s Media/Elwyn line. The Media/Elwyn line currently runs 15 miles or 24 kilometers from Universal City southwest to Elwyn, Pennsylvania. The majority of trains on this line continue east through the Center City Commuter Connection to run over the West Trenton and Manayunk/Norristown lines.
The extension to Wawa will be completed by the end of 2021. The cost of the extension is approximately $178 million dollars, and is being funded by the federal government and the state of Pennsylvania. Construction began in 2018, and as we’ll see, the vast majority of the project is complete. The new station will be called Middletown, as it is located in Middletown Township.
