At the start of game, Geralt is being held prisoner in La Valette Castle. Luckily for Geralt, he gets interrogated by someone who's looking for the truth; Vernon Roche questions Geralt about the events that occurred during the siege of the castle. 6:00 -- Dawn -- By the King's Will Geralt begins his day in bed with Triss, but their fun gets spoiled when Geralt is summoned by Foltest. NOTE: Before going to meet the King, there's a few things you can do at the war camp. ---Melitele's Heart, 11:05. On the path leading away from Triss' tent, Geralt will meet the Crinfrid Reavers and their apprentice Newboy. The Reavers want Geralt's advice on a talisman they've given to Newboy. They hope the talisman will protect Newboy in battle (and win a bet for them), but they don't want to get Newboy killed. The talisman is actually cursed, and the curse can be purged during Chapter 1 of the game. But for Geralt to obtain the talisman (and for Newboy's well-being), Geralt should warn them that the talisman is trouble. The Reavers will surrender the talisman and will see to it that Newboy is equipped with plate armor. ---Pyromaniac Ability, 16:14 The Pyromaniac ability improves Geralt's odds of inflicting Incineration with Igni or a weapon. To obtain it, just take fire damage from any source (including camp fires). ---Experienced Ability, 16:20. If Geralt destroys 10 unique training dummies, he gains the Experienced ability that grants +10% XP from all sources. During the Prologue, Geralt can destroy 5 dummies at the Temerian war camp, and he can destroy 5 others in chapter 1. ---17:13, Shilard and Foltest. ---22:05, hitting Count Etcheverry with the ballista. 25:44 -- Morning -- At the Fore Geralt must protect Foltest as the king leads the assault against Aryan La Valette. This sequence is rather linear, but it's the first dose of combat gameplay, and the combat can be harsh. TIPS: Parry/Block attacks if you don't feel confident in your dodging abilities, use Axii to turn an enemy into a decoy for you, use Yrden to trap strong enemies while you kill weak enemies or attempt to perform backstabs, use Aard to force shield-bearers to kneel, and finally, although it's initially weak, Igni can deal large amounts of damage if Geralt upgrades his sign intensity. BIGGEST TIP: Avoid getting surrounded. Use bombs and upgraded Igni to attack your enemies from a distance. The Grapeshot bomb formula can be obtained from Cedric in Chapter 1; Grapeshot can be made using Celandine + Bryonia or Celandine + Amethyst Dust. ---29:24, Assassin Ability. Assassin improves Geralt's backstab damage by 50%. The ability is obtained by finding the dead Assassin easter egg after Geralt slays the first group of ballista defenders. ---36:09, Aryan La Valette. Geralt can either: fight Aryan and his men, duel Aryan, or convince Aryan to surrender. If you convince Aryan to surrender, then Geralt will later earn the Strong Back ability (+50 carrying capacity). 38:26 -- Noon -- Trial by Fire Easy sequence. Just avoid being out of cover while the dragon is breathing fire. Use the fire-breathing sound-effect to judge when it's safe to move out of cover. 42:55 -- Afternoon -- To the Temple Foltest assigns the task of discovering a path to the local monastery. Before Geralt enters the sewers under the castle town, he should help some civilians. ---45:45, Woe to the Vanquished. There are two groups of civilians that Geralt can save. For both groups, refuse a monetary reward in order to get more XP. The first group is being robbed by a pair of soldiers. Persuasion, Intimidation, or Axii can be used to make the soldiers leave, but Persuasion and Intimidation have a chance of failing. The next group is under threat of being burned alive, 46:50. Geralt simply has to duel a commander in order to save them. Once Geralt has saved the two groups, it's time to find a path to the temple, 48:50. The path to the temple courtyard is linear. At the courtyard, 54:40, to get the gate key, you need to slay a La Valette Knight and the troops he leads. The knight has higher armor than the other enemies, so kill the others before him. Afterwards, backtrack, and open the gate. 58:00 -- Evening -- Blood of his Blood The last memory from the battle is pretty simple. Follow Foltest and don't die. There's a QTE when you try to cross the bridge. Just right-click when you're prompted to. Afterwards, follow Foltest upstairs. 1:13:43 -- The Dungeons of the La Valettes The final quest of the prologue; Geralt must escape La Valette Castle so he can track the kingslayer. It doesn't matter if you sneak out or fight your way out; there's no gameplay bonus other than Roche giving a comment when you meet him at the boat. For a stealth-approach, just watch what I do in the video. For a combat-approach, luckily, the Blackjack that you find near Geralt's cell has a Stun chance, and Geralt still can cast Signs.
