In the momentous year 1929 airship Graf Zeppelin began her round-the-world voyage from Lakehurst financed by amongst others Randolph Hearst. Nearby New York was still in the grip of the gay twenties. The flight of the Zeppelin attracted enormous attention and crowds. The first stop was in the German Friedrichshafen at the Bodensee. Next stop was Berlin. See separate clip www.youtube.com/watch/tpSPEc3ZTKE. From the film ‘Farewell’ by Ditteke Mensink, research Gerard Nijssen; produced by Pieter van Huystee. A mistake has been made in one title: 'Europe in throws of WWII'. This should have read 'Europe in the throes of WW1'.
