@seijisawamura54153 years ago So basically it’s like this..
    Season starts*
    Ben: “I’m not coming..”
    Sixers: “You don’t get paid”
Ben: “I’m coming but I can’t play because of mental health issues..”
Sixers: “You get paid now.. See our specialists”
    Ben: “No”
Rich Paul: “How can they treat him this way??!!”

@davidarrington41443 years ago Rich and Ben: Ben is having mental health
issues, he can’t play right now.
Rich and Ben literally not even a year ago: Ben doesn’t want to play in Philadelphia anymore and is willing to do whatever it takes to be traded.
Rich and Ben put themselves in this corner. They’re hoping the controversy that might come from the 76ers saying Ben is faking mental health issues will distract people from the trail of events and evidence that all prove Ben is clearly faking mental health issues in an effort to not show up to work but still get paid.

@K_DC3 years ago Say someone fractured their foot and can't come to work (constructions company). That person technically wouldn't be able to work for any constructions company. Simmon's "mental" affliction is oddly scoped to not be able to play for one "specific" team 🤣. What's being painted in the public is that if Simmons is on another team, this mental anguish then just magically goes away?
Ben is within his right to not like a team or a city, but apparently his pride is not above taking the team's money. smh.

@williamwong33793 years ago Ben created this situation by taking a combative stance with the 76ers. All he needed to do is be professional and work with the 76ers to get a trade done. Instead he provided zero communication with the 76ers and wants to be paid even though he's unwilling to show up for work. ... 72

@NeilTruick3 years ago Let's turn back the clock to the interviews right after the Sixers got eliminated by the Hawks. Doc answered his question the way he answered it, Joel answered his question the way he answered it. Up to this point, Ben is still a member in good standing of the Philadelphia '76ers. The team never said anything about Ben not coming back, whether it was a player, a coach, or any front office personnel. It was Ben who said he wanted out. It was Ben who said he never wanted to wear a Sixers uniform again. Ben blamed the team, Ben blamed the fans. Right or wrong, Ben unilaterally decided he wanted to be traded immediately.
The Sixers still have FOUR YEARS on the contract Ben signed. What team is going to want to pick up Ben Simmons and the remainder of that contract at face value given what they just saw? From a business perspective, the Sixers did exactly what they were supposed to do--protect their financial investment. I get that the media doesn't want to contribute to this drama going on for any longer, but they are not doing anybody any good by trying to browbeat the Sixers front office into accepting a bad deal just to make Ben happy and put the team even further behind than they are now. They paid for Ben's services, but Ben is not providing those services. The reasoning and supposed justification is irrelevant. If Ben wants to get paid, Ben needs to do the work.
If Ben is using a psychological justification why he can't do the work, then what's more important: him getting healthy or him getting paid? Ben doesn't "trust" the team...so much so, he not only refuses to use their medical staff, he refuses to divulge which medical professional is supposedly helping him through this. This could have been a John Wall situation. This could have even been a James Harden situation. Because Ben is handling this situation in the worst way anyone could handle this situation, this is what we have. Ask anyone in Philadelphia...ask anyone with more than a passing knowledge of this situation. Ben has yet to earn the sympathy he so desperately wants.

@mainmoney54913 years ago I feel legs is right on this one. It’s more of a financial battle at this point more than anything else. If he plays there is no guarantee you’re going to get him to play well to increase his value, and the playoffs along with this whole mess created doesn’t make it better. Adam Silva is going to have to step in at some point because it’s getting ugly and muddy when you throw mental health in the equation(which it could be). ... 6

@tonytsai953 years ago Tim's missing the point. The Sixers are willing to move Simmons for the right deal (as is their right), but in the absence of that deal, they expect him to play. It's shame he doesn't want to play for them, but they are willing to trade him. The problem is -- he's damaged goods right now and needs to rehabilitate his image. But he can't recover any trade value by sitting out, because the last thing anyone saw of him was choking in the Atlanta series. He needs to play to recuperate his trade value, and then he will get his wish. But he has to play. ... 14

@keshonrobertson14363 years ago Everyone says Pilly should trade him, what are they going to get in return nothing. Every other team saw how fragile his man is, so are they going to give any proper thing for him. No. He needs to get mentally healthy and back on the court to have some sort of trade value. Pilly organisation and fans defended and protect all time for years but they spoke once they are bad. Ben needs to take accountability or just leave the game. I see him as just a weak, player and the opposing team is going advantage of him. Just leave the game. ... 24

  • @
@davidarrington41443 years ago Honest question here… I know Rich Paul doesn’t actually care about Ben or any of his players and that he just searches for the largest contract being offered without any consideration of the situation the player is joining or any consideration for the players legacy in the bigger picture. Rich clearly puts himself first, players are just too stupid to pick up on this cause money money. But I’m curious, does Ben realize how bad this looks? The guy never seemed like the smartest individual, and I think he might be getting intellectually taken advantage of by Rich Paul and those who claim to be representing him ... 13

@sdotjay66153 years ago If someone is unable to perform their job they can obtain documentation from a mental health professional stating they are not able to perform due to some mental health issue. I personally think he's BS'ing and it's a shame given there are people dealing with mental health issues that truly require leave. This is all a pissing match between the player and the team and I feel bad for the innocent bystanders who may be impacted. ... 3

  • @
@oldschoolde51833 years ago Ok here’s the thing. I am in No WAY, ShAPE, or FORM belittling anyone with mental health issue. I have family that are struggling with issues of their own. The issue with Simmons has a few big holes that no one in the media has said anything about. Simmons reportedly said that he “wasn’t mentally ready” to play. He never said that he was dealing with any sort of mental health issue. Not being mentally ready to go to work and having issues that prevent you from going to work are to entirely different things. Mental Health issues were brought up immediately by media outlets. Simmons never said anything other than he wasn’t “mentally ready”…not until after media outlets brought up mental health. In my opinion the GM and Ownership has a right to know what issues he is having. Stress, Depression, Anxiety….what is the issue. It’s not to much to ask. He is not willing to communicate just what he is dealing with. If he really wants support, don’t you thing he would at the very least say what he’s going through or is he not “Mentally Ready” to let anyone know? ... 1

  • @
@likecandy47113 years ago it's easier for role players to get traded, as they are more rooms to work with for both teams.
but for starters, especially for max contract "franchise" players, it's
one of hardest trade to make it happen, because their demands (from both parties) are
that much higher. (and their expectation).
sixers gave Ben the max contract, because they see the potential in him that they believe
    in his value.
but what Ben is asking for sixers to do, which is to just "make" trade happen,
is def unreasonable, especially when it's Ben who is the one lower his own value.
if Ben is willing, and wants the trade to actually happen,
he has to be more proactive (such as going to the gym, show up in training camp, and join practice)
that's what other pro atheletes do.
    ...
