Reballing Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 DUAL-X - R9 280X GPU With Homemade BGA Rework Station And Low Cost Equipment. This video is showing you how to repair graphics cards AMD-ATI Radeon or Nvidia with BGA problem. Why Reballing ? The graphics chip is soldered to the board with hundreds small solder balls (BGA) and one or more solder joints crack with time due to the thermal cycle which creates thermal stress (contraction and expansion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_stress) and the graphics card stops working, old thermal paste or paste with bad heat conductivity and clogged cooler increase the thermal stress, with this procedure we replace the solder balls and resolder the chip to the board and the graphics card works again. I prefer reballing over reflow because reflow is not a long term solution and the black screen or artifacts will return again soon, reballing is more reliable and is the preferred GPU repair method. @MrLukealbanese4 years ago Nik, these videos are fantastic. Let me ask you though, is there a reason that you prefer the solder balls to using solder paste with the stencils?

@salsabilhana94456 years ago You are really a pro nik, salute. By the way why you have to remove the stencil while it still hot, what happen if we remove it when become cool, does it will sticky? From my experience before) or any reason?
