Watch Steve Harvey’s Funderdome Sundays 9|8c on ABC. Shawn: Hey. My name is Shawn. I'm with GoDaddy. I'm here hanging out with Dan who has the best shirt ever. Dan: You're looking at it. Shawn: Yeah I know this is so amazing. All right. So I know a little bit about it but why don't you to explain to us like what it is, right, in general? Dan: Absolutely. So you're probably wondering why it's the best shirt ever, why I would call it that? Shawn: Because you look good in it. Dan: That's really what it comes down to is it makes feel very hip. But you know other than that, it's stain proof, waterproof, and sweat wicking. Shawn: What? Dan: So a lot of times you'll leave the house -- Shawn: Yeah. Dan: -- and like if it's raining, if it's hot, if somebody spills something on you, like you might have been crushing it when you left the house. [Laughter] But then like, you look terrible. Any shirt looks bad if it's like spilled on, right? I figured, you know, why not make beautiful clothing that stays beautiful. Shawn: So wait, okay, so fluids for sure like water and stuff like that. What if I got like a giant meatball and I get like the red sauce is on me? Is that good? Dan: It rolls right off. Shawn: It rolls right off. Dan: Rolls right off. Shawn: The meatball rolls right off. Dan: That's right. Although you got to be careful because it could get on the pants. We don't have pants yet. Shawn: All right. I got you. Dan: It'll happen. Shawn: You're going to have people complaining about the stains on their pants. So okay, I'm completely fascinated by this and part of the reason is like how in the world did you dream up like this -- like water repellent fluid repellent shirt, like where did the idea come from? Like where it did come up? Dan: Well, I guess it started with my first company was called Speakeasy Briefs. And its men's underwear with a secret pocket. Shawn: Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. [Laughter] Speakeasy Briefs. Dan: That's right. Yeah. Shawn: All right. Okay because I get it. Like a secret entrance. Dan: Absolutely. Shawn: Secret pocket. Dan: Yep. Shawn: That sounds amazing. Dan: Absolutely. Shawn: All right. Dan: It fits all your pocket needs, you know? Shawn: [Laughter] Dan: Fill it with a flask. People, you know -- Shawn: So it started with that. Dan: Yeah. Shawn: How did it lead to a shirt? Like it went from underwear to shirt. Dan: What it really came down to was we launched Speakeasy Briefs on Kickstarter. Shawn: Yeah. Dan: And we had to figure out how to make a fashion product from scratch. Shawn: Yeah. Dan: But we lost our manufacturing. So I learned all about fabric technology. I was running around San Francisco like knocking on doors. Shawn: Whoa. Dan: Trying to figure how to make underwear and a funny thing happened on the way to the underwear factory. [Laughter] I actually learned how to make great clothing. Shawn: What about kind of that feeling when you're like uh oh. Like I'm not sure like I'm going to come out of this. Right? You kind of hit that point. Are you resilient enough? Are you passionate enough? Do you care enough about your idea to stick with it? Dan: Yeah exactly. It's -- a lot of people would like to start a company, right? Because it's a valuable outcome. Shawn: Yeah. Dan: But what makes it valuable is it's scarce. It's scarce because it's hard. There's a big dip. Shawn: Yeah. Dan: And so it's like if you aren't real with yourself about the dip that you're in for -- Shawn: Yeah. Dan: Right? Then you're going to end up spending years working on this thing and then just like -- Shawn: Yeah. Dan: -- run out of gas and quit. So it's like you know that the dip is coming and you prepare yourself for it. Then it makes it easier to bounce back. Shawn: Totally. Totally. And so last question then. Dan: Yeah. Shawn: Who -- like how would you describe the tribe for the best shirt ever? Dan: [Laughing] The best shirt ever -- we called the company Clickbait Clothing. We do not take ourselves too seriously, right? We like to have fun. We like to laugh. I never would have had the stones to call it that if I didn't actually believe that it was an incredible product, right? Shawn: Yeah. Yeah. Dan: So it's like -- it's someone who doesn't necessarily take themselves too seriously. Shawn: Yeah. Dan: Recognizes that like they still want to look good. Shawn: Yeah. Dan: But like it's light hearted and fun. Shawn: Yeah. Well how do you reach them then? Like how do you get in contact with them? Dan: Facebook has been incredible. Shawn: Yeah.
