Date : 18th March 2019 Venue : TPC Kuala Lumpur (West Course) QUALIFYING ROUNDS OFF TO A GREAT STARTING THE WORLD AMATEUR GOLFERS CHAMPIONSHIP (WAGC) A total of 83 golfers competed in the first qualifying round of the World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC) held at the TPC Kuala Lumpur today. Altogether, 12 qualifying rounds will be held nationwide, each to select a winner for five handicap categories. These 60 winners will then challenge for a place in the national team and five champions will represent Malaysia to compete with 40 other national teams at the WAGC World Final that will be played over four golf courses in Kota Kinabalu from October 19 to 26, 2019. The winners for today are: Mansol Bin Mamat, handicap 4 clinched victory in Category A by scoring 76 nett. Dato’ Abdul Rahman Rahim, handicap 7 dominated Category B by scoring 68 nett. As for Category C, Nor Azhar Bin Mohamad Nor, handicap 11 won the group by hitting 68 nett while Dato’ Ahmad Zaki Hasan, handicap 16 with the score of 66 nett to top Category D. Dato’ Zarim, handicap 24 concluded Category E with score of 66 nett. Perodua is again the title sponsor for WAGC – for the 8th consecutive year. Perodua Chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, Perodua President & CEO Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad, Patron of WAGC Malaysia Datuk A. Sani Karim, and WAGC President Mr. Isac Saminathan were present to officiate the event. Since 1995, the WAGC World Finals have inspired amateur golfers from around the world by offering them a platform to compete in an international tournament. This world-class tournament gives amateur golfers the pride and honour to represent their countries in a world championship final, individually as well as in a team. Locally, WAGC offers a great opportunity for amateur golfers, golf courses, suppliers and corporations to rally together to promote the game and foster fellowship among the golf fraternity, both nationally and internationally. Holding the WAGC World Final in Sabah allows the locals to play host to national teams and their entourage from over 40 countries. WAGC 2019 National and World Finals are organised by Delta Trend Golf & Leisure Holidays, the official partner and licensee for Malaysia. It has been organizing the qualifying rounds and national final in Malaysia for the 8th consecutive year, and the WAGC World Finals in Malaysia for three successive years from 2017-2019.
