"ASL: Friend" "JSL: ケンカ (kenka) Fight" ASL & JSL similar signs but different meanings part 8 /watch/YWPHmL3AFQRAH JSL & ASL similar signs but different meanings part 8 1. Friend / ケンカ (kenka) Fight Konnichiwa everybody, it’s me Danny. ダニーですよろしくお願いします。 Today’s similar ASL & JSL Sign is “Friend” in American Sign Language. Both your index fingers extended out like the in the movie “ET”. Now cross your index fingers while rotating your forearms in opposite directions. JSL has a similar looking sign, again here are your “ET” fingers, now make your fingers brush against each other while keeping your forearms straight. What do you think this means in JSL? I’ll give you a hint with my facial expression that is usually associated with this JSL sign, like this: Can you guess what it is? In Japanese Sign Language, it means to fight (kenka). Imagine your “ET” fingers representing 2 Samura swords crossing each other in a sword fight. This maybe the reason this is the JSL sign for “Fight”. Now imagine all 10 of your fingers extended and crossing each other. This represents 5 Samurai swords vs. 5 Samurai swords. In JSL, this is the sign for “War”. Pretty cool to see how 2 fingers represents “Fight” and 10 fingers represents “War”. JSL is so cool! Let’s see both ASL & JSL signs again and pay attention to my facial expression. ASL “Friend” JSL “Fight” So just be careful of misunderstand the ASL “Friend” for the JSL “Fight” and vise-versa. For example: ASL Signer, “They are friends.” JSL Signer, “Oh I see, they are fighting” ASL Signer, “Yes… no, no they are friends” (exaggerating the ASL for “Friend”) JSL Signer, “Oh I understand, not JSL “Fighting” but ASL “Friend”. See how you can easily misunderstanding. Your facial expression is very important. #JapaneseSignLanguage #JSL #手話 #AmericanSignLanguage #ASL #アメリカ手話 #Animewithsignlanguage #learnJapaneseSignLanguage #BasicJapaneseSignLanguage
