Against this backdrop, we were moved to hear of the struggles of a young engineering student who almost single handedly, with his mother, embarked upon a street cart venture to rescue his father and family from a crippling financial setback. And in the course of doing so, reconnected his father with a delicious North Karnataka snack tradition. In this street food episode, I stop by at Chitradurga Girmit Mandakki Centre to meet Ullas Basavaraju and his father, and also taste the Chitradurga mirchi in a scrumptiously delicious spicy avatar, some girmit mandakki masala and a rather intriguingly named ‘operation bajji’!
